Dr. Yves Bastien, Optometrist

  • 1974 degree from École d’optométrie (school of optometry), Université de Montréal
  • 1976–1992 Mentor for interns in private clinic, in collaboration with European Society of Optometry
    and Institut d’Optique Raymond Tibaut of Brussells. Hosted 84 students for 3–6-month internships
  • 1981–1989 Optometrist-advisor to Quebec ministère de la Santé et des Services sociaux (ministry of health and social services)
  • 1982 Initial training in ocular pharmacology 
  • 1988 Doctor of Optometry 
  • 1995 Earned permit to use diagnostic drugs
  • 1995–2006 Member of GROF, the Groupe de recherche en optométrie fonctionnelle (functional optometry research group), along with optometrists Nathalie Mazur, Jean-Pierre Lagacé, Carole Melançon and Guy Duchemin
  • 2001 Qualified to prescribe therapeutic drugs in optometry
  • 2003 Law regulating optometry allows qualified personnel with permit to prescribe therapeutic medications

1974– Optometrist in private practice, first with Armand R. Bastien, then with Nathalie Mazur. General practitioner with particular interest in vision therapy, orthokeratology and functional optometry.

Has given lectures and seminars in Quebec, the USA, Europe and Australia.

“Hello, my name is Simon Lanctôt, and I’ve been a Vision Therapy Technician with Drs. Bastien and Mazur, Optometrists, since 2007. I have a diploma in Recreation Management. I really enjoy teaching the different vision therapy exercise programs. I adapt the exercises to fit the patient's profile, no matter their age. Helping people read more easily or function more effectively in their daily tasks is my pride and joy. I hope to meet you — and, even better, help you soon!”

Optometric Assistants Our assistants welcome you at Reception, answer the telephones, prepare you for your visual-field examination, guide you in choosing frames, and teach you how to insert, remove, handle and care for your contact lenses. The final choice of frames and advice for new contact lens wearers is supervised by your optometrist.
